Old age and Accomodation

Maybe you are paraplegic and about to reach retirement age or already at retirement age. Or perhaps you are a family carer for someone with paraplegia and you are finding your daily routine is getting more difficult.

You possibly recognise the following issues:

  •  “Life is getting more difficult at home. I’m less independent. My family are also finding it more difficult to help me.”
  •  “Organising care and services like cooking, cleaning, washing, etc. is complicated.”
  •  “I can’t drive myself any more. Public transport isn’t very accessible. There are no shops in the village, and no post office or bank (or these are too far away).”
  •  “I feel unsafe. If I were to fall from a chair, I wouldn’t be able to get back up, and there is nobody close by who could help me.”

Are you thinking about making changes, or would you like to make plans in advance, before it’s too late?

Contact our Old Age and AccommodationCoordination Office. We will discuss your individual needs and ideas with you and look for a suitable form of accommodation close by. We have a network of partner institutions throughout Switzerland. Each of these partners offers accommodation with services, an integrated or external Spitex service and a care home attached or close by. Our proprietary courses train nursing staff in the needs of older people with paraplegia.

If necessary, we can accompany you on your visit there and discuss any structural modifications needed, and services such as cleaning and washing, as well as financial aspects.

You can also contact us after you move with any questions you have about old age and paraplegia.
